Soprano Amy Selby brings a fresh, bright sound and presence to the stage. During the 2023-2024 season, she is sharing her artistic abilities by enriching the community through OPERA San Antonio’s Education Outreach Program. Last summer, she created and performed the new character role of Wee Jo in the world-premiere of the popular Gilbert and Sullivan opera, The Mikado, reimagined in the highlands of Scotland as The McAdo. Amy gracefully-executed the lead role of Winifred in the Austin debut of the one-act musical comedy, Mr. Jericho. She sang the role of Zerlina in Texas Concert Opera Collective’s (TCOC’s) inaugural production, Don Giovanni, Sophie in Werther, and performed as the title role in Amahl and the Night Visitors. For One Ounce Opera’s 2nd Annual Fresh Squeezed Ounce of Art Song concert, she sang Kevin March’s “Songs of Remembrance and Resistance”, where she “clearly felt the power of these women’s stories and channeled it.” During OperaWorks’ comic original production of TRUMP’D: Making Opera Great Again, she created the role of a CrossFit hipster-techie, and that same year portrayed the role of Zipporah in LifeHouse Theater’s production of Moses with music by Nolan Livesay. Earlier seasons include performances as Adele in Die Fledermaus and Pamina in The Magic Flute. Amy holds a Master of Music from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Music from Truman State University. In addition to performing, Amy enjoys gardening, teaching, aerial silks, and ballet. Originally from St. Louis, she currently resides in Central Texas, where she has sung with Gilbert & Sullivan Austin, OPERA San Antonio, One Ounce Opera, TCOC, Texas Bach Festival, and the Austin Opera Chorus.
